Are you a member of any groups on Facebook or LinkedIn?

Since I have been on Facebook I’ve been in a number of groups, but I join them with  relation to my interest and business. I understand some people aren’t interested in joining groups on any social media platform, because they feel it would make them stay on social media longer. Staying on social media longer than you plan can be avoided by setting a time limit for each platform.

Here are a 3 reasons why people join groups:

  1. Assistance – There are groups that are just there to help and assist with certain things i.e WordPress, Content Strategy, Speaker Assistance, DIY – arts & craft, creative writing, etc.
  2. Networking – Opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals.
  3. Connecting  – Work on possible collaborations

I will share with you that I am a strong proponent for groups, and the reasons above are why I initially started joining groups and here is the reason why — It was over a year ago, when the subject of being a co-author came up in a group I was an active member in. The opportunity come around twice, the first time I didn’t think it for me as I wasn’t interested in it, but once it came around a second time, I really started to think of being a part of a book. So if I would have let that opportunity pass me by, I wouldn’t be part of an amazing anthology that became a #1 Best Seller on Amazon.

If you’ve been on the fence about joining a group, I hope this blog post helps you to jump over and join a group.
