Simple Hacks for Authors

Are there really any simple hacks for authors? Well, I want to share some research that I’ve come across since I’ve become an author. As an author of 3 books, I like to connect with fellow authors to learn and grow as an author. In this blog post, I share a couple simple author hacks, for aspiring and new authors to remember on the journey of being an author. When I speak with authors, I am always interested to find out where their books can be purchased. Surprisingly most authors have their book available in 1 or 2 places, their website, and Amazon. Other than those 2 places they haven’t’ even considered having their books available for purchase any place else. When we chat about the quality of books that it is thoroughly important that the book is of good quality. The book should have a flow and readable.  Most authors state that have a large and active email list, but for the most part, they continue to keep growing and selling their books because of word of mouth, vendor events and book signings. A large number of authors I spoke with, informed me that they do connect with other authors and that joining an association or writing club is the perfect thing to do as an author. Finally, if someone asked you to what your book is about, you want to be able to speak eloquently about what your book is about. Readers will be out there, so you should have a book elevator speech to explain what your book is about and where it can be found. There are many more...

Relax, Unwind & Soar in 22 Days

Relax, Unwind & Soar in 22 Days  Five years ago, I used to spend a lot of time writing down thoughts. Once I really started thinking of putting this to a book, I knew I needed to cut this book down, because there were approximately 100 chapters, but after reviewing my work, I felt that 22 chapters would be sufficient for this book. I am sure fellow authors will appreciate my feeling, finishing my current book is tough. So many things get into the way, you have your everyday duties, family, work & business, but my goal was to write every day for 15 minutes. We all know that, writing daily can be a challenge. How many people have written books, but never published them? Most still have their book written out in a journal book. Originally, I  started writing in a journal, eventually switching from the journal book to a computer. Then imagine trying to recover your book, after your computer has crashed.  Guess what, that was me many years ago luckily,  I was able to recover it. Well, of course soon after this happened,  I decided to start saving my work on a flash drive. So here are more details about the book, I’ve been holding onto for a couple years. Relax, Unwind & Soar is an inspirational, motivational and thought provoking short read. With note taking space, after each chapter in case someone wants to take notes, and jot down their thoughts. The short chapters are simple, thought provoking and an enjoyable. You can grab the book, right here on my this site under the books...

Authors are you doing Podcast interviews?

Authors are you doing Podcast interviews? Did you know it helps to give you, and your book more attention? Podcasting is one of the Top 10 ways to market your business. There are actually several podcasts dedicated to authors & writers. Podcast Hosts love to talk about books. They will often talk about a new book they have read, if they enjoyed it, and they will often times suggest that book to their audience.  So if you are an author, a Podcast interview gives you an opportunity to talk in detail about the following: What your book is about? Who it appeals to? Your process in writing the book. Why you decided to write the book. The followers or the audience of the podcast show, will oftentimes check out the books of the guest on the show.  To see if any of the books are of interest to them. Also, being a guest on the podcast gives you an opportunity, to fully explain your thoughts on the books. By doing this, those listeners can get a deeper understanding of your books.  Most times an author gets an opportunity to read an excerpt from their books. Podcast interviews are an especially relevant  way to market your book. The show host of the podcast will promote your book, a picture of you and possibly your website or site where your book can be purchased and contact information to reach you. If you are an author, and you are interested in doing podcast interviews, but struggle to find out how to do so, the best way to get on a podcast is to ask. Podcasts Hosts are often looking for people to interview, and most often love to interview authors.  Authors...

Growth – My word for 2017

2017 is the year of Growth for me, so I decided to pick a Power Word for the me. I knew the word had to be specific towards moving forward, because it was necessary.  My word for 2017 is Growth! So moving forward with these goals, will help me to crush 2017. Did you set any goals/resolutions for 2017? Share your goals with me.   Share...

Balancing working & being an entrepreneur

As a Toastmaster, we have a variety of speeches that we have to complete while pursuing our goal of Distinguished Toastmaster. I decided to share my notes from a previous speech, I shared 10 things that work for me as I balance a 9 to 5 job & being a entrepreneur. Delegate duties Know your limits Take breaks – work 5 or 6 days a week instead of 7 – all work and no play doesn’t help you to accomplish your plan you have set forth. Set aside time for Family or time for your self. It helps to ward off burn-out – rest your mind/body & refresh. Take 1 day of the week and make a to-do list of what you want to accomplish for the week. Stay on schedule – if you work a 9-5 make important business related calls on your lunch break. The calendar can be your best friend. Don’t over promise – take in mind that you work your full-time job, so know your time frame for responding to your clients request. Learn to say NO! It’s ok to decline invitations. Remember why you started. I hope these 10 tips are helpful to you, if you do anything different please let me know. Share...

Sharing your story

You have probably heard that sharing your story is important, well it really is important for many reasons, which I will share, but most importantly you  have to be ready to share your story. Sharing your story is sharing a part of your journey. Sometimes it will make you rethink well if I share my story, No one will like it? Will anyone read it?  Will everyone look at me differently and/or judge me?  The answer to that is yes, they will read your story, some may not like it, and possibly someone will look at your differently. But that’s all just fine, your story is meant to be shared and not for you to worry about the what’s. It took a friend telling me that I needed to tell my story, not only for me, but for the healing, and understanding of someone else in need. I decided to do a #Periscope #LiveStream about why I shared my story, be sure to click on the link and watch it. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. http://www.periscope.tv/shequitalee Share...
